The Local Government of Compostela promotes industrialization and full employment based on resonance agricultural development. This makes sense fully and efficient use of human and natural resources. However, LGU-Compostela shall protect local enterprises unfair competition and trade practices.

The LGU-Compostela heartens on small and medium scale industries since it has the capability to plan for its development.

The municipality of Compostela is very lucky enough to have existing industries that helped much in its development. Without its existence, the municipality would not be what it is today.

At present the municipality has numerous industrial establishments. Hollow block making/sand & gravel topped with 14 establishments because we have the best quality of aggregates according to private contractors.

Moreover, we have banana chips processing for export and veneer plywood processing and micro enterprise processing biscuits, ampao, pansit, & assorted candies. Agricultural manufacturers also exist as well as motor cab/tricycle assemblers and furniture manufacturers.

Repair shops and truck body builders are also present servicing the transportation sector of the municipality.

As support services, banks, pawn shops, lending investors, real estate and cooperatives also are present.

One notable fact is also the presence of agro-industrial banana plantation and packing plants that earn dollars for the country. It has support facilities services like hangar, warehouses, run-way and so forth. It may consider as highly pollutive and hazardous due to its chemicals and fertilizers use applied to banana plantation.

On the contrary, welding shops, repair of motorcycle machine shops and bakeries are non-pollutive and non-hazardous.

Manufacturing of food products such as vinegar and soy sauce, manufacture of native plow, tanks and other structural sheet metal works are visible in the municipality, this refers to pollutive and non-hazardous.

Manufacture of veneers, plywood, hardwood, rough lumber, and marked lumber are noticeable within the locality, this refers to pollutive and hazardous.

Meat processing such as longganiza, chorizo and chicharon and the manufacture of wine from juices of local fruits are discernable to the locality. This belongs to highly pollutive and non-hazardous industry.

The existing banana plantation in the vicinity threatened the healthy lifestyle of the residents especially the chemicals they applied for spraying and the “chicken dung” they used to that really bring hazards to the physical condition of the people as pollutant to the environment such as air. Suitable to this, a device has been employed to serve as warning or caution among the nearby residents and passers-by or commuters along the streets enable to be presage during spraying time. Besides, the company of the banana plantation convened with the LGU to get resolution on this problem such that to mitigate pollution and degradation. They use buffer to determine by the people that the hangar shall be on that print where droppings of chemicals will only be at that point.

The Local Government of Compostela responds on this prevalence of pollution and hazards among the community.

To note, Compostela is a fast growing municipal that sees future problems of waste disposal. Its effect gives a monstrosity to the community and its environment when garbage does not dispose properly.

Thus, the LGU takes action through Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (commonly known as RA 9003), its implementing rules and regulations which sets guidelines on proper wastes segregation and disposal.

Currently, the Solid Waste Management Program imposed strictly by the task force, dumpsite caretakers, barn/MRF caretakers, street sweepers, garbage collector, and garbage truck driver.

The garbage is being catered by one unit of six-wheeler garbage truck with a capacity of seven cubic meters. Eventually, the LGU earnestly provides one (1) unit garbage compactor in order to meet the needs in the barangay level.

Besides, during the renewal of every businessmen in the society, the MENRO gives MENRO Clearance after the concerned informed well on the proper segregation of wastes as well as sanitation and beautification program on their specific location.

Industrial development for the municipality has not been given enough emphasis during the last several years because of the existence of Valderrama Lumber Manufacturer Company Incorporated. The closure of the company in the early part of 1994 brought several problems. Foremost is the high rate of unemployment in the municipality. Skilled and unskilled manpower are idle because there are no alternative industries where they will be absorbed.

Nevertheless, medium and small scale industries continue to operate especially those in support to the agriculture sector like rice mills and farm implements manufacturers.  Another thriving industry is the motor cab/tricycle assemblers.

The existing industrial zone for medium and small scale industry is found out to be irrelevant to the present development trends.  Residential houses are already sprouting on its vicinity that the need to identify an alternative site is a top priority. The Government of Compostela situates always on the concerns prioritizing health and sanitation within the industry.
